Achievements - City of Durham Labour Party

This Labour government is working hard to improve public services and address the cost of living crisis we inherited from the Tories.

Here are some of the recent achievements we have announced in the City of Durham.

Free breakfast clubs

More than 1,000 primary school children in the City of Durham are now accessing FREE breakfast clubs thanks to this Labour government.

Extra SEND funding

The Government has given an extra £3.6m to Durham County Council to support children with special educational needs.

Reduced mortgage costs

Thanks to SIX interest rate cuts since Labour took power in July 2024, the average annual mortgage cost is £1,170 lower. Interest rates were 5.25% and are now 3.75%.

Free childcare

The Government is saving parents of young children up to £6,300 a year with 30 hours of FREE childcare per week.

Stronger rights and protections for renters

From May 2026, more than 7,500 renters in Durham will have stronger rights and protections thanks to the government's Renters' Rights Act.

Living standards boosted for more than 1,600 children

The scrapping of the two child limit of Universal Credit and Child Tax Credit will boost the living standards for hundreds of children in Durham.
