Mary Kelly Foy MP - City of Durham Labour Party

Mary Kelly Foy was first elected as City of Durham MP in 2019 and more than doubled her majority in the 2024 general election to nearly 12,000.

She had previously been a ward councillor for Lamesley on Gateshead Council from 2006, later becoming cabinet member for health and wellbeing and holding the post for ten years until she stood down from the council in 2019.

Mary, who was born in Jarrow, was a Community Development Worker in Durham from 2006 to 2013, and also worked as a parliamentary assistant to former Jarrow MP Stephen Hepburn.

She was local party chair for Blaydon before moving to the City of Durham and is a regional representative of Labour’s National Policy Forum.

A member of both Unison and Unite the Union, Mary is also in the parliamentary party’s Socialist Campaign Group.
